✅ Option 1: Check Your Model Number (Most Accurate)
Locate the model number label:
- Behind the front cover or on the side of the unit
This applies to:
- GC42 (42” PTAC)
- GCDM (32” PTAC)
Electric Heat Only
Your model number contains: “E”
Examples:
- GC42P-E07KA2-2
- GC42P-E12KA2-2
- GCDM-E models
These units:
- Use electric heating only
- Do not have a heat pump
- Begin heating quickly after startup
Heat Pump (Hybrid Units)
Your model number contains: “H” or “HP”
Examples:
- GC42P-H07KA2-2
- GC42P-H12KA2-2
- GCDM-H models
- GCHP-09ANR1E2-C
These units:
- Use a heat pump for primary heating
- Have electric backup heat
- May delay before warm air starts
✅ Option 2: Observe Unit Behavior
If you cannot find the model number, use these signs:
Heat Pump (Hybrid)
- May blow cool air briefly when starting
- Takes a few minutes before warm air begins
- Performance may decrease in very cold outdoor temperatures
- May enter defrost mode (temporary cool air)
Electric Heat Only
- Produces heat almost immediately
- No defrost cycle
- Heating is consistent regardless of outdoor temperature
